How do I commission a pet portrait?1. Pet portrait enquiries can be made via my website contact form here. If you are not sure exactly what you are looking for then don't worry! We can discuss the artwork with no obligation and I am happy to make suggestions. I will create digital mock-ups based on your photos, giving you a preview of the layout and background of the portrait. This way you can be confident in the end result before I put paint to canvas. 2. Once the ideas have been agreed, I will request a non-refundable 30% deposit before starting work on the portrait. 3. Once the portrait is complete, I will email a photo of the painting for your approval. Once the remaining balance has been paid, delivery or local collection can be arranged.

How much do you charge for a pet portrait? The price of a pet portrait depends on the size of the painting and how many pets are included. Here are some examples for the most popular sizes. There is no strict limit on the number of pets I can include in a painting, or the canvas size (the most pets I have included in a single artwork to-date was ten!) If you don't see what you would like covered in the options below I'm happy to give a quote, please send me a message here explaining what you would like.

What materials do you use?My pet portraits are hand-painted in acrylic paints on a stretched canvas. I find acrylic paints are perfect for building depth, vibrancy and detail within my work. After years of experience with this medium, all of the materials I used are hand-picked to give the best possible results with quality and longevity in mind. As the paintings are completed on a stretched canvas, you can choose to hang the painting as it is or with an additional frame. If you wish to have the piece framed I can arrange this for you. All of my paintings are sealed with protective varnish, so framing behind glass is not required/advised.

How long will the portrait take to complete? The time it takes to complete a painting varies depending on the size and complexity of the artwork, however most portraits can be completed within 4-6 weeks of receiving of the deposit. If you need the artwork quickly or if you have a specific deadline in mind, please get in touch and I can confirm my availability. The Christmas period is always very busy, so please book as early as possible to secure your place.

Can the portraits be framed? With acrylic paintings on canvas, you have the option to hang the painting as is or with an additional frame. My paintings are varnished for protection, so framing behind glass is not required. I have years of experience fitting made-to-measure frames and would be happy to arrange this for you upon request.

What kind of photos do you need to work from? The ideal reference photo would show clear details and be taken at eye-level with the pet. You do not need any professional camera equipment, most smartphone cameras are capable of taking great quality reference images. When you're choosing a photo, think about which image shows off your pet's appearance and lets their character shine! If you're spoilt for choice and don't know which one of your photos would work best, please send over a selection and I can give my opinion on which would give the best results. I understand it is not always possible to provide the perfect photo. In this case it is often possible to combine aspects of several images to create the ideal likeness. If you would like multiple pets included within the portrait, they can be placed together from separate images. For more tips on taking reference photos I have put together a guide here.
